Update September 6, 2013: Information about a casting call for extras in the UK is now posted below.
Lucamar Productions in association with Marc Platt Productions are currently in the pre-production phase on the highly anticipated live-action musical feature film “Into The Woods” starring Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep. The movie is an adaptation of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. Disney Casting directors in New York and Los Angeles are auditioning actors/singers for starring and co-starring roles. Additional casting will take place in London, UK where filming will take place beginning in September, 2013. The extras, photo-doubles, and stand-ins for the film’s stars will be cast in London.
“Into The Woods” intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales such as from “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Rapunzel,” “Cinderella”, etc., and follows them to explore the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The plot tells the story of a baker and his wife who desperately want children and in attempt to lift a family curse, they decide to strike a deal with a Witch who cast the spell on them. She promises to give them a child if they can bring her the cape of Little Red Riding hood, the milky-white cow of Jack (of beanstalk fame), the slipper of Cinderella, and some of Rapunzel’s golden hair. In order to do so, the baker must travel into the dark and mysterious woods and battle a Giant (again of beanstalk fame) who threatens to destroy the entire village.
Starring in “Into The Woods” is three-time Academy Award nominee and Disney favorite Johnny Depp, who is playing a hungry and sexy vicissitude of the fairy tale Wolf. Depp has made a number of blockbuster hit films for Disney including the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, “Alice in Wonderland,” and “The Lone Ranger”. Also starring as the vain and charismatic Witch is three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep. Most recently Streep starred in “August: Osage County” alongside such A-list talent as Benedict Cumberbatch, Ewan McGregor, Julia Roberts, and Abigail Breslin. Rounding out the first three roles Disney has cast is Tony Award winner James Corden playing the role of The Baker. Corden, who is hugely popular in England, recently played the role of “Britain’s Got Talent” sensation Paul Potts in the film “One Chance”.
Academy Award nominee Rob Marshall will direct “Into The Woods” from an adapted screenplay written by three-time Tony Award winner James Lapine. This film reunites Marshall with Johnny Depp, as Marshall directed him in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”. Marshall’s other directorial credits include the Academy Award winning Miramax musical feature film “Chicago” starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renée Zellweger; the Academy Award winning film “Memoirs of a Geisha” starring Suzuka Ohgo and Togo Igawa; and the Academy Award nominated musical film “Nine” starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Penélope Cruz, Kate Hudson, and Nicole Kidman. Marshall will also produce along with two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner John DeLuca and Primetime Emmy Award nominee Marc Platt. Walt Disney Pictures will distribute worldwide.
