The Walt Disney Studios and Genre Films are in pre-production on the new live-action feature film “Cinderella”, to begin shooting in March, 2013. The studio casting executives are screen testing actresses to play the title role of the beautiful and beloved Cinderella. Casting for the starring and co-starring roles are being cast out of Los Angeles, however additional casting is to take place in London, where filming will take place. The photo-doubles and stand-ins for the film’s stars along with the extras will be cast in the United Kingdom throughout filming.
“Cinderella” will be a re-imagining of the tale of Cinderella, a much-loved only child of a widowed aristocrat. After her father dies, Cinderella begins to be abused and mistreated by her malevolent stepmother Lady Tremaine and stepsisters Drizella and Anastasia out of jealousy. But when she is visited by her Fairy Godmother who bestows upon her a silver blue dress with glass slippers, Cinderella is enabled to attend Prince Charming’s ball to procure a wife. However, at the stroke of midnight Cinderella’s ball gown returns to rags, leaving her no choice but to run away. The only thing left of her enchanted evening is a single glass slipper. With clue in hand, the love struck prince combs the land in search of his beautiful princess.
The only actor to be cast so far is Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett in the role of Cinderella’s wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine. Blanchett was previously attached to Disney’s “The Order of the Seven” along with Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan, however Disney cancelled that project due to competing studio productions of “Mirror, Mirror” and “Snow White and the Huntsman”. Ronan has screen tested for the role of Cinderella, along with Swedish actress Alicia Vikander and English actress and model Gabriella Wilde. It appears that Disney casting directors are looking to hire an international cast, very much the same as “The Order of the Seven”.
Simon Kinberg will produce under the banner of his production company Genre Films, Inc. Kinberg has written screenplays for such films as “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Jumper,” “X-Men: The Last Stand,” and “Sherlock Holmes”. He has produced the films “X-Men: First Class,” “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” and the upcoming film “Elysium”. Walt Disney Studios is the production company for “Cinderella” with Walt Disney Pictures distributing the film. Walt Disney Studios is the main production arm for Disney’s motion pictures. Walt Disney Pictures is a film imprint that encompasses the release of its own productions, in addition to films produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios.
Minors and foreign talent must be legally eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
