Filming on “The Muppets” has wrapped.
Mandeville Films and Walt Disney Pictures have teamed up to produce the new Muppet film. It was announced at D23 Expo that the title would be “The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made.” The title was later referred to as “The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time,” and more recently simply “The Muppets”.
The film will mainly star many of the original Muppets. Brian and John Henson, the sons of the late Muppets creator Jim Henson, will do voice-overs for several characters. Jason Segel plays the human lead role of Gary, and Amy Adams plays Gary’s girlfriend Mary. Segal wrote the script with pal Nicholas Stoller.
The creative team for the Muppet Movie flew to Pixar headquarters in July, 2010 for a table read of the script and to get feedback from the “Pixar Brain Trust”. This is the second time that Pixar assisted its partner, Walt Disney Pictures, with a live-action feature after it helped shape re-shoots for the upcoming film “Tron Legacy.”
Shooting on “The Muppets” is currently taking place in Los Angeles and will continue through January 8, 2011. The release date is scheduled for Christmas Day, 2011. Casting is still taking place currently for both extras (see extras casting info below) and principal actors. Story:
The story revolves around The Muppets reuniting after a huge falling out to save The Muppet Studios in Hollywood. Segel will play the lead role, a human named Gary, whose best friend is the puppet bear Walter. Together they go on a journey with Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) to defeat the evil Tex Richman (Chris Cooper), a man who doesn’t find the Muppets funny and thinks he can smell oil beneath their studio.
