Touchstone Pictures open casting call for feature film ‘Real Steel’ in Troy, Michigan


The extras casting director for the Touchstone Pictures / DreamWorks Studios feature film ‘Real Steel’ is holding an open casting call for people interested in working on the movie as background actors. Shooting begins in mid-June and the production is looking to hire thousands of Detroit locals to work as extras on the film. The casting call will be open to men and women of all ethnicities, ages 18 or older.

The film is scheduled to be released October 7, 2011. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will distribute the film.

The story takes place in the near future where 2,000-pound robots that resemble humans battle it out in the boxing ring. Story revolves around a promoter who takes his fighter to the bot boxing championships. Jackman will play Charlie, an ex-fighter who becomes a promoter when human boxing is outlawed for being too violent. The new gladiators are 2000-pound robots with human qualities. The ex-fighter’s access to sub-standard robot parts hampers his hopes for glory in Robot Boxing, until he discovers a discarded robot that always seems to win. The ex-fighter has also discovered he’s the father of a 13-year old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top.
