Genre Films and Allison Shearmur Productions in association with Runaway Fridge Films are in pre-production on the Disney live-action fantasy romance feature film “Cinderella”. Casting has been taking place for the starring roles, and auditions are now underway for the film’s co-starring and supporting roles. Shooting will get underway this Fall, 2013 in the London, England area. Interior filming will take place at the world famous Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. All of the movie’s extras, photo doubles, and stand-ins for the film’s actors will be cast in the United Kingdom.

This brand new re-imagining of the timeless fairy tale will have a fresh take on the original 1950 Disney animated musical fantasy film, which was based on the fairy tale “Cendrillon” by Charles Perrault. Released on February 15, 1950 the movie tells the tale of poor Cinderella, who is perpetually mistreated by her wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine and stepsisters Drizella and Anastasia. When the King and the Duke arrange a ball for Prince Charming in an initiative to help him discover a wife to marry, Lady Tremaine denies Cinderella a chance to attend. With a little help from her mice friends, and a great deal of help from her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella spectacularly shows up at the ball, meets the Prince, and falls in love!

Starring in “Cinderella” is the astonishingly talented and elegant English actress Lily James in the highly coveted title role. In 2010, James graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and has gone on to enjoy a very successful career in just a few short years. Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Richard Madden has been cast to play the role of Prince Charming. Madden is best known for playing the role of Robb Stark in the hit HBO television series “Game of Thrones”. Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett was the first actor to be cast, and will be playing Lady Tremaine. Screen Actors Guild Awards winner Sophie McShera and Empire Awards nominee Holliday Grainger have joined the cast playing the stepsisters Drisella and Anastasia.

Five-time Academy Award nominee Kenneth Branagh will direct “Cinderella” from an adapted screenplay written by BAFTA Film Award nominee Aline Brosh McKenna and Academy Award nominee Chris Weitz. Branagh, who was hired after Mark Romanek left the project due to creative differences, is also an accomplished actor who has starred in such films as “Henry V,” “Hamlet,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” and “My Week with Marilyn” among many others. His directorial credits include “Much Ado About Nothing,” “A Midwinter’s Tale,” “Thor,” and the recently completed Paramount Pictures feature film “Jack Ryan” which he also starred in along with Chris Pine, Keira Knightley, and Kevin Costner.

BAFTA Awards winner David Barron will produce under the banner of his production company Runaway Fridge Films. Barron has had a long standing association with Kenneth Branagh, working together on such projects as “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein,” “A Midwinter’s Tale,” “Hamlet,” and “Love’s Labour’s Lost”. Barron also has produced six Harry Potter films including “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”. Genre Films’ Simon Kinberg is also serving as producer. Kinberg has an impressive resume that includes writer of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” writer/producer of “Jumper,” writer of “Sherlock Holmes,” executive producer of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” writer of “X-Men: The Last Stand” and producer on “X-Men: First Class”.
